Peaceful Protests! On two occasions, gatherings of citizens peacefully demonstrated to oppose the Nugent Sand Company’s proposal to put a 36" wide pipe, 600’ long through the critical dunes to discharge 8.3 million gallons of treated wastewater per day to Lake Michigan. February 7th, 2004, over 30 activists stood with signs on the corner of Henry and Norton in Norton Shores. On March 20th, 2004, more than 40 protesters demonstrated their opposition to DEQ Administrative Law Judge Patterson’s ruling to grant Nugent the permit, allowing the construction of the Nugent pipeline and erosion structure on the beach. During both protests, the public honked their car horns almost constantly in support of the demonstrations. Notice of further demonstrations will be posted here. The public is encouraged and welcome to attend. If you would like to be notified individually, please email sanctuary02@msn.com Thank you.
